Simon’s article discusses that Colin Kaepernick started the protest of kneeling during the National Anthem when he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. Colin to this day because of his actions of kneeling is still unemployed by the NFL. Colin’s protest started when the shootings of police killing black innocent men occurred. Player protest started to occur more frequently during the National Anthem when more killings were reported in the United States. Player protest was identified as a “player sitting on the bench, kneeling, raising their fist in the air, staying in the locker room or staying in the tunnel.”(Simon 1) Trump made a speech for U.S senate Luther Strange in 2017 and during his speech, Trump discusses to “get that son of a bitch off the field right now!” “Out!” “He’s fired!” After Trump made those comments in his speech about the players, the NFL players took his comments offensive and began to protest. Almost every team had somebody protest the weekend after Trump said those comments in his speech and resulted in the NFL players to kneel and stay in the locker
