NFL Protest A change in the NFL was coming quick for its players. As many NFL players began to protest for social justice around the league, many people began to judge NFL players in the wrong way. Colin Kaepernick, a former NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers began his protest on social justice in 2016. Colin would kneel during the National Anthem before the game as his protest. As the NFL players started to realize what Colin was protesting for, the players would start supporting his protest by kneeling during the National Anthem. Many people viewed the players protest by kneeling during the National Anthem as disrespectful towards the military and the sacrifices they have made to keep our country safe. Colin’s protest was about social justice and the black lives matter movement, an issue where cops have killed innocent black people. The discussion of players kneeling during the National Anthem began to heat up when president Trump started to bully the NFL on twitter about players kneeling during the National Anthem. Then soon Colin’s NFL future was over as he opted out of his current NFL contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Colin had poor play the season before he opted out of his contract and couldn’t land a job with another team in free agency. Colin then filed for a collusion case against the NFL for not having a job in the NFL because of his protest. Colin Kaepernick made a lot of sacrifices for kneeling during the National Anthem and for believing in what was right as he lost his chance to play again in the process. and in speeches, the NFL decided to present a deal to the NFL coalition group that was formed for social justice and police brutality. The amount of harassment and sacrifices Colin Kaepernick did for what he believed in was a lot to kneel during the National Anthem and to change the NFL and its players forever. To begin, Colin Kaepernick’s protest was about social justice and the black lives matter movement. Colin began to kneel during the National Anthem due to the recent killings of police officers killing innocent black people. In 2016 Colin decided to protest because of the killings to black people. As his NFL peers began to realize what Colin Kaepernick was protesting and more killings occurring, they also began to protest with Colin. Colin’s NFL career would come to an end when he decided to OPT out of his contract in 2017 to head for free agency to find another team with interest in him to sign him to another contract. As free agency began no team had real interest in signing the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback to a contract.
