Dr. Papafratzeskakou 30 October 2017 Intro To Psychology Article number 2 The hypothesis set forth is that spending more time on facebook gives the users tremendous anxiety and the false perception that they need other user’s approval to be happy about themselves. Essentially those using social media websites, regardless of self esteem levels and extraversion or introversion, will be affected and harmed one way or another through the website’s quantification of “acceptance”. The extent to which each person gets harmed by the said mechanisms depends on the person’s personality traits, however the harm to confidence and increased anxiety are imminent, which lead to increased anxiety and unhealthy self consciousness. The aim of the study is to evaluate the relationships between extraversion, anxiety levels, the time spent on facebook and need for approval. 284 participants, 70 percent of whom were females, were tested through the Approval From Others subscale from the Contingencies of self
