Study Guide – Exam Two PSY 100: Abnormal Psychology Dr. Brown Fall 2018 The purpose of this study guide is to aid you as you prepare for your exam. Exam questions will be drawn from the book, lecture, and discussions in class. This should give you a good sense of what is going to be on the exam, but is not necessarily exhaustive. Chapter 5: - Define learning - relatively enduring change in behavior or knowledge as a result of experience - The role of classical conditioning in marketing - nostalgia, create brand loyalty - Define classical conditioning - neutral stimulus elicits response caused by a unconditioned stimulus - Know the classic study conducted by Ivan Pavlov - pavlov’s dogs. Unconditioned stimulus, conditioned stimulus, etc.) - UCS- the stimulus that something has a natural reflex toward - CS- the stimulus that had no meaning to something until it was paired with the UCS - CR- response for the CS - Know the phases of learning (acquisition, extinction, and spontaneous recovery) acquisition: initial phase of learning during CS-UCS pairing Ex: numerous bell- food pairings Extinction: when the cs is presented repeatedly without the ucs makes the cr decrease or disappear entirely spontaneous recovery: cr comes back after time passed - Define emotional learning emotion driven conditioned responses -
