Ashlynn Stahl Chem Lab 11/5/19 Freezing Point Depression Post Lab 1) Can you determine the freezing point of water in this activity at the beginning of lab? Explain how can you tell from the graph? You can determine the freezing point of water in this activity but it’s later on in the lab when you add the ice to the water and stir consistently with the temperature sensor watching the temperature carefully until it reaches its lowest point and stabilizes. You can tell this from the graph when the line goes from dropping drastically to evening out and then goes back to going upwards. 2) Why is calcium chloride (CaCl 2 ) more effective as an anti-icing material than sodium chloride (NaCl)? Calcium chloride is more effective as an anti-icing agent because it can break down into three ions instead of two like sodium chloride.Which means there are more ions stopping ice bonds from forming. 3) We were able to decrease the freezing point of the water by adding salt. Can we further decrease the freezing point more by adding more salt?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
