Daisy M. De La O History 1302 Professor Chapman April 23, 2019 Guided Notes for the “Communism Video” I have created these “guided notes” to help you as you watch the Communism video from the 1950s. You are by no means limited to these notes. Please add all facts and observations you deem important in the margins or at the bottom of the page. Right off the bat, how does this video describe communism? What kind of language and adjectives are used? Communism is a political and economic system when society is owned by the public or state and wealth is divided by among the citizens equally. In this video, communism is described as a plan made to fail. The kind of language that is used is aggressive and informative language. How are communism and communist countries, especially the Soviet Union, framed in relation to the United States? Communism and communist countries, especially the Soviet Union, did not have rights, such as freedom speech, however, while in the United States many people had rights and freedom to do as they please. According to the video, what is an education in the USSR like? What is its purpose? According to the video, the education in the USSR was very harsh and teachers are told what to teach exactly what the students have to understand. The purpose of this type of education was that the teachers were preparing the students to know the knowledge that would forsake them in the USSR.
