ISBN: 9780974934532 Course Description: This course examines key issues and trends in industrial and organizational psychology in global organizations. Students evaluate contemporary theories, practices, and perspectives concerning the value and influence of I-O on individual and organizational performance and productivity. Key topics in this course include I-O's value proposition, research methodology and psychological assessment, change management and organization behavior, and I-O professionals as consultants and business partners. In addition, students examine contemporary I-O performance models and proven best practices associated with enabling organizations to achieve organizational and business goals and gain competitive advantage in their marketplaces. This course is also intended to provide students with an introduction to the process of planned change within organizations. Course material is organized into three sections: (1) the history of organizational development (OD), the values/ethics that guide the field, skills required to be a successful practitioner, and the foundations of organizational change; (2) the process of OD from gaining organizational entry to evaluating organizational change; (3) popular individual, team- based, and organization-wide interventions. Learning Objectives: Learn the basic concepts and theories characterizing organizational development Improve basic skills required of both academics and practitioners, including critical thinking, researching, writing, and presenting Learn historic psychological theories, research arguments for and against these theories, and practical application of theories Learn how to read, write, and speak about psychological theories, data, and practical applications Learn how to read empirical research reports and literature reviews in APA (American Psychological Association) style Gain competence in written discussion of theories, research, and applications of psychology, using online discussion forums. Gain experience and expertise with computer use as it pertains to psychology Gain knowledge and skill in the use of information technology (e.g., research databases, search engines) for gathering background sources for class work, literature review assignments, and the development of ideas for original empirical research projects
