Cultural Exploration Interview: 1. What is skater culture? Skate culture is a culture that adapted from surfing in the early ‘60’s. It blossomed in the ‘70’s once a larger population of skateboarders developed around the world. Early skateboarding competitions later led to some of the biggest Action Sports events in history such as ESPN XGAMES and The Mountain Dew Tour. 2. In what ways does skater culture represent embeddedness, intellectual autonomy, affective autonomy, egalitarianism, and harmony? Embeddedness in skateboarding is holding the tradition of skating in the streets, as well as being rebellious against rules and laws that are made to prevent skateboarding, such as breaking these laws. Intellectual Autonomy is high in skate culture because creativity and new ideas are supported and shared throughout the culture, such as new skateboard designs and trick inventions. Affective Autonomy in skate culture is also high because skating to us represents enjoying and living positive experiences, and adventure. Egalitarianism in skate culture is
