Daniel Washington Personal Statement Baruch College Weisman School Of Arts and Sciences Degree Objective: Masters in I/O Psychology One of the proudest accomplishments in my life was being the first college graduate in my family. As a first-generation, Black and Latino college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I have striven to work hard to be a positive image in my family, to be a bastion of hope and prosperity, and to use the educational resources that were granted to me to achieve my long-term, life goals and career goals. I would have not been able to accomplish my endeavors without the support of my mother. My mother has been the main force in my life who has raised me to be a man who can overcome adversities, transcend social barriers, and have the tenacity to live up to my greatest potentials and achieve my greatest aspirations. From high school to college, my mother has supported me in all my academic endeavors and I always had the privilege and the opportunity to take advantage of the educational resources that were available to me. College was really the pinnacle of my academic pursuits in Psychology because it served as a place that reinforced my intellectual curiosities and enabled me to delve even further into the field. I conducted my own independent research on the different fields in Psychology and then came across Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Industrial/Organizational Psychology really stood out to me because it was a field in Psychology that was completely novel to me. My understanding of Psychology as a science was rather limited because I had very little exposure to the subject and my own perspective was centered around the idea that Psychology was a science that trains people to become Counseling
