In health care, many things can change and can change quickly. These changes include the introduction of a new policy, a new president or even being bought by a bigger company. Any one of these changes can deeply affect the patients especially those that live in a nursing home. When a nursing home is affected by the change of being bought out and patients must be moved to a new location, the primary responsibility of this transition falls on the Nursing Home Administrator. As the Nursing Home Administrator, I must be aware that many patients affected do not have family in the local area, do not communicate well or have not granted permission fortheir health information to be released. Part of my responsibility is to devise a plan to communicate with the patients, their family members, and a new facility through different meansall while adhering to the federal HIPPA regulations. These communication methods include traditional, electronic and social media, each having their advantages and disadvantages. Unformatted text preview: ensure no matter which means of communication I intend to use, I must follow the Federal HIPPA regulations that protect the patient’s personal and medical information. Research must be done on each patient affected to see if there is a family member who is listed as their Power of Attorney. Having this authorization allows communication to take place between me, the family member, and new facility, without violating any federal laws or the patient’s privacy. If necessary, a Patient Advocate may be called in for assistance to assist me in communicating withthe patient or family. “The patient advocate’s role is not to provide medical information but to make sure patients are well informed and satisfied” (du Pre’, 2005), this also goes for family members as well.
