Research must be done on each patient affected to see if there is a family member who is listed as their Power of Attorney. Having this authorization allows communication to take place between me, the family member, and new facility, without violating any federal laws or the patient’s privacy. If necessary, a Patient Advocate may be called in for assistance to assist me in communicating withthe patient or family. “The patient advocate’s role is not to provide medical information but to make sure patients are well informed and satisfied” (du Pre’, 2005), this also goes for family members as well.
