One of the most intriguing topics which she brings up is what it means to be obliged to have freedom? Rose relates freedom to the development of consumerism which opens doors for many people which makes their life anti existential nihilism which in turn makes their life purposeful. In the excerpt, Rose states: “freedom to choose in a market in which one...assembles, manages, and markets oneself” [2] I believe this statement can be tied to What she means to have freedom or when an individual is obliged to be free. According to Rose, being able to market, assemble, manage, and market oneself within the community opens the doors of freedom. I don’t believe I self manage in my everyday life as I still heavily depend on my mother for my food, bed, and a roof over my head, etc. I also don’t believe I am free as I can not relate to the topics listed by Rose.
