ZIKA VIRUS 2 Zika is a viral infection that is passed on through Aedes mosquito bites that mainly occurs during the day. The species of these mosquitoes are Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti. The symptoms generally persist for like two to seven days after infection, and they include headaches, mild fever, joints and muscle pains, conjunctivitis, and in some cases, the victim develops rashes. However, science has shown that several people never exhibit these symptoms after infection. Expecting mothers can transmit the infection to their fetus, which can result in the birth of infants suffering from Zika syndrome, which is a congenital malformation and in some cases, microcephaly. However, Zika infection can also lead to pregnancy complications such as miscarriage and premature births. Besides, Zika affects children and adults too and result in neurological problems such as myelitis, neuropathy and Guillain-Barre syndrome (World Health Organization, 2018). The virus that causes Zika disease was first recorded in monkeys in 1947 in Uganda.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
