Chapter 3 Questions: 1. What are the four basic approaches to documentary cinema? How are these approaches blended and reinterpreted by contemporary documentary filmmakers? Factual, instructional, persuasive, and propaganda. Factual films: It is what the film makers use to entertain the audience. They are very straightforward in the way they work and are not meant to unduly influence the audience. Instructional Films: These types of film focus on teaching rather than persuading. They want to teach you a certain skill, a better way to do things. Persuasive Films: It literally has the word persuasive in the name. These types are meant to persuade. They used to be documentaries but now they can use them for social issues. They used to be so people could give a certain perspective but now I feel people use their perspectives in a persuasive way. Propaganda: This type is a lot like persuasive, but these films are more focused on getting out government messages. More made by the government= propaganda. Most of the time propaganda is distorted information. 2. What are Fred Camper's six characteristics that most experimental films share? Experimental Films are…. Not commercial: They are films made with a very low budget. They don’t make them to get a gross amount of money from them. They are made by single filmmakers.
