THE CASE ANALYSIS – TREATMENT FORMAT 2 According to the theory of dialectical behavior, an individual who fails in develop adequate skills to manage their emotions can be attributed to an invalidating childhood upbringing. In such an environment, the feelings and thoughts of the child are ignored as well as victimizing the child. As a result, a child from such an environment develops an attitude or failure to trust their thoughts and feelings. Children from such environments also lose a sense of themselves and tend to depend on other individuals to provide meaning, direction, and support in their life. According to Dr. Banks, an individual diagnosed with borderline personality disorder would require treatment interventions involving dialectical behavior theory. A connection between the theory and interventions such as requiring the patient's commitment, developing fundamental issues in functioning and survival. The interventions, as used in this case, helped the patient to successfully overcome the problem that seemed impossible in the eyes of the patient Borderline Personality Disorder in Gorenstein and Comer, 2014). Dialectical Behavior Therapy refers to a behavioral treatment approach that is best suited for outpatient contexts. The concept is based on four models of treatment which are tailored to look into five key functions. The four treatment modes include training on skills, individual therapy, therapist and client consultations outside the treatment session, and team meetings for therapist consultation. Its five treatment functions include increasing the patient’s motivation

THE CASE ANALYSIS – TREATMENT FORMAT 3 towards change, patient’s capabilities enhancement, generalizing the gains of the client to their general environment, reinforcing the gains of the client through structuring the environment and increasing the competence of the therapist as well as motivation (Rizvi, Steffel, & Carson-Wong, 2013).
