Case Summary Client 1 : Tina, a 36-year-old HIV-positive Latina woman Client 2 : Tina’s daughter, 12-year-old Victoria (also HIV positive) The clinic’s therapist feels that Tina feels guilty for transmitting the virus to Victoria and this is the reasoning for her stance. However, the clinic remains concerned and wants Tina to reconsider. (Herron, & Klein, 2014). I’m sure that any parent that finds out their child has been diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as HIV would be overwhelming by itself, painful and emotional all at the same time. However, to also know that you as a parent are the responsible party, the culprit of your child contracting the life-threatening illness would probably create guilt, shame as well as fear. Fear that when the child finds out their parent is responsible for their illness anger will set in. Parents are supposed to be the caregivers, protectors, encouragers; supporters emotionally and mentally, guide and discipline, not push or demand. They aren’t supposed to rob their child of a normal childhood, force them to grow up too fast, much less negatively impact their mental health and stability. I’m sure Tina’s thought process has
