Thermochemistry Virtual Experience Summary Joshua Gomez P.3 4/25/18 Thermochemistry is a branch of chemistry concerning how much heat may evolve or be absorbed during a chemical reaction. The system of this branch consists of the reacting molecules. The surroundings of those molecules is the rest of the galaxy/universe. If the above reaction is happening in a gaseous state, known as “gas phase”; then the walls of the container are part of the surroundings. Exothermic- a process that releases energy in the form of heat. When forming a chemical bond, you release energy which is a prime example of an exothermic process. Exothermic reactions feel hot because heat is being given unto you. Endothermic-a process or reaction that absorbs energy in the

For a chemical reaction or process an energy profile (or reaction coordinate diagram) is a theoretical representation of a single energetic pathway, along the reaction coordinate, as the reactants are transformed into products. Enthalpy is a property of a thermodynamic system. The enthalpy of a system is equal to the system's internal energy plus the product of its pressure and volume. The unit of measurement for enthalpy in the International System of Units is the joule. specific heat is the amount of heat required to raise one gram of any substance one degree Celsius or Kelvin. The formula for specific heat is the amount of heat absorbed or released = mass x specific heat x change in temperature....
