Unit 5 Discussion: Mariella One of the concepts that was used was the IQ testing. The psychologist wanted to see if she could find any learning problems and she was right. Mariella tested low in verbal reasoning, and as a consequence, she took her father’s advice to remain silent too literally. Another concept that was used was behavior. That showed them the environmental stimuli that seemed to affect Mariella’s behavior. A third concept that was used was Applied Behavior Analysis. The psychologist engaged in conversation with Mariella after providing a safe environment in her office. She was able to get the child to open up once she felt safe and the psychiatrist used information gathered from her father about recent events during a weekend visit where Mariella asked her dad for advice in the handling of a bully.
