Muscle Fatigue Lab By Muhib Khan Background Information: All humans need energy. ATP, a form of energy, can either be produced with oxygen, aerobic respiration, or it can be produced without oxygen, anaerobic respiration. Fermentation occurs when organisms don’t have access to O 2 and convert simple sugar ethanol and carbon dioxide. For animal cells, anaerobic process can be known as lactic acid fermentation which occurs when there is no oxygen for aerobic respiration which its chemical equation is C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6O 2 ⇢ 6CO 2 + 6H 2 O + ATP. This will lead to the lactic acid reach a point where the muscles will reduce its ability to contract and eventually, it will cause exhaustion and the contraction of the muscle will stop which is muscle fatigue. Sprinting is one situation where one can be unable to maintain the demand or supply oxygen for certain muscles. Experimental Design: In this experiment we are testing your hand-dominance and how that affects the amount of times you can squeeze a clothespin. The variable that we changed in this experiment was the hand with which the clothespin was squeezed. We measured how many times during a 20 second period that the clothespin was squeezed. We had two
