Discussion 5.1: How Values Affect Perceptions of Health Policy Tamiya Williams Regarding the United States (U.S.) health care system, I am not very optimistic that policy makers, government officials, health professionals and citizens will ever find a common ground. I believe that health care is a right and access to it should not be denied because of an individual’s ability to pay. There are many types of disparities that exist in the U.S. that result in people landing in different socioeconomic classes. Unformatted text preview: necessities in order to pay for health care services. I think that an Egalitarian approach should be taken when addressing the health care system in the United States. If nothing else, individuals should have an equal opportunity to live their healthiest lives. Saying that an individual does not have a right to health care can be viewed by some as promoting inequality among the U.S. population. I am not naive to the fact that there are many obstacles that stand in the way of transitioning to a universal health care system, but with a bipartisan approach anything is possible....
