STAGES OF WOUND HEALING Inflammatory Stage Lasts 3-6 days Controlling bleeding with vasoconstriction. Delivering oxygen, WBC, and nutrients to area. Proliferation Stage Lasts the next 3-24 days Replacing lost tissue with connective/ granulated tissue and collagen. Contracting wounds edges. Resurfacing of ne epithelial cells Skin Integrity Wound Dressings >Woven Gauze- absorbs exudate from wound. >Nonadherent material- does not stick to the wound >Damp to Damp 4in by 4in dressing- used once granulation starts to develop. Wound is always moist. >Self- adhesive/transparent film- temporary second skin for small superficial wounds. >Hydrocolloid- can stay in place for 3-5 days. Swells in the presence of exudate. Prevents evaporation of moisture from skin. >Hydrogel- mostly water and gels when in contact with skin. Not for wounds with drainage . Cooling sensation Alginates- Nonadherent dressing that conforms to the shape of the wound and absorbs exudate. Packs the wound.
