1 Direct Examination of Kelly Simon Q: Hello Ms. Simon, thank you for being being with us today. Would you please introduce yourself to the jury? A: My name is Kelly Simon, S I M O N Q: Can you tell the jury a little bit about yourself? I am the only surviving parent of Jordan Simon. I met my husband in college. I discovered I was expecting Jordan shortly after we were married. My husband died in a car accident when Jordan was only two years old. Q: What was your experience as a single parent? A: Raising Jordan was difficult to do on my own. I worked hard to make sure Jordan had a good life, and I did what I had to do to get food on the table and pay the bills. Q: What did Jordan like to do? A: He had serious talent for running from a young age. When he was just six years old, he ran a 2 mile race and finished before a lot of the adults. Q: What impact did his talents have on his life? A: By eighth grade he was meeting numerous high school track coaches. Q: Did he show any special interest in a specific school? A: Yes, Jordan was especially excited about meeting coach Terry Swift, who represented Spartan Academy.

2 Q: Was Jordan able to attend Spartan Academy? A: Yes, only after Coach Swift himself recommended him for a scholarship. Q: What did you think of how Coach Swift treated Jordan during his time at Spartan Academy? A: I believe Coach Swift put too much pressure on him. Q: Do you recall any particular incidents between them? A: Yes, when Jordan was 15 he placed second in a track meet, and Swift reacted badly. Q: What happened? A: I think Jordan believed that his acceptance to college was on the line and so was next year’s tuition at Spartan.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
