Types of Questions You can determine the type of question by looking for clues in the very last sentence of every question (which are identified below in parenthesis). *Determine the Type of Question: Priority, Branch, or Alternate Type* All Evaluation Questions are “ Branches ” of the decision tree. In these Branches , we don’t generally use steps 2, 3, & 4 because they don’t help us eliminate answer choices. Always use steps 1 and 5 of the Decision Tree for EVERY question, and then give the Strategies that will help Eliminate answer choices. Type of Question Clues (found in the very last sentence of every question) Steps used from the Decision Tree Apply the Strategies to Eliminate Answers Priority Question: (MOST, BEST, FIRST)—not evaluation “Branches” questions Steps 1,2,3,4,5 #1 : Topic #2 : Assess/Implement #3 : Maslow #4 : ABC's #5 : Outcome Therapeutic Communication : (“Response or Statement”—Is the topic of the question psych?) Steps 1 & 5. - Respond with feeling tone/Provide factual information. - If question has a safety risk (i.e.: abuse, combative, etc.)—look at outcome. Does safety take priority? AVOID LIST - Don't ask "why" ,avoid yes/no questions./Don’t focus on nurse.
