In what way was Wundt and Tichener’s approach of structuralism an attempt to imitate chemistry and physics? They believed if people could break down all matter into simple elements or structures, why couldn't they do the same for the human brain. d. The video mentions the structuralists’ technique for studying the mind, usually termed introspection . What was the primary problem with this approach? It became too subjective, Psychologist can’t observe a patient's inner thoughts or feelings. 3. William James is often called the ‘father’ of American psychology. a. What was the goal of his approach, usually termed functionalism ? He proposed different sets of questions by focusing on human senses, focusing on the functions of human behavior, based on Charles Darwin’s idea that adaptive behavior are conserved through evolutionary process.
