Youth Firearms Violence Initiative 2 Abstract Youth violence has been on the rise for many years now. Trying to combat youth violence is a very difficult task throughout the nation especially. Most programs that were initiated were eventually stopped because they were not helping the situation. One program has some research it did help, the Youth Firearms Violence Initiative. 2

Youth Firearms Violence Initiative 3 Around 1985 to around 1994, juveniles were committing serious violent crimes in which grew at an astounding rate. Homicide was the biggest crime committed between teenagers and adults in the mid-twenties. Even though there were a couple of programs that had promising results, such as the Boston Gun Project and the St. Louis Knock and Talk program, they did not ultimately fix the situation at hand. This program is known as the Youth Firearms Violence Initiative. ( National Institute of Justice; November 2000) The Youth Firearms Violence Initiative was launched in 1995 by the U.S. Department of
