Sacramento Site VLAN, Routing on a Stick, DHCP Implementation . Site Details and Challenges: As a network administrator for the xAcme Technology Trade School, we have been tasks with properly implementing the network’s different Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) databases, configure the Routing on a Stick (ROS), and configure Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) at the Sacramento Site. The current site configuration has one 2800 Integrated Services Router and three Catalyst 6500 series Switches. A VLAN connects a group of devices together who are on separate networks so that they can exchange information and communicate with each other. Implementing Virtual LANs allows us to assign devices on different switch ports to different local area networks. This gives us the ability to maintain and perform network administrative functions easier. [1] A device in one VLAN would not be able to communicate with devices in another VLAN unless they are properly setup with inter VLAN capabilities. A Routing on a Stick would meet this requirement by using a single physical interface to transport data between the different VLANs. [2] Any device that needs access and connects to a network requires an IP address. DHCP automatically distributes those IP address information and configuration across the network instead of manually inputting the information by a system 2

administrator. [3] By configuring DHCP on the Sacramento Site, it relieves system administrators the tedious burden of manually inputting the information which is time consuming. Site Solutions and Technologies Our current Sacramento Site Network requires 5 Faculty VLAN devices, 14 Administrative VLAN devices, 34 Instructional VLAN devices and 7 Server VLAN devices. The allotted IP address range for Worchester is 10.20.0.0 /16 which would allowed a total of 65,534 hosts. To determine what subnet class to use for the site, we chose the /24 group. This will allow us to accommodate the largest VLAN which is the Instructional VLAN that requires 215 devices. We

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
