Surname 1 Name Professor Course Date Critical Response In the essay “Is Violent Media Good for Kids”, Gerard Jones explains how violence can help in nurturing a kid into an adult that can control his or her anger. The piece is quite short, but the author manages to air his opinions fully and incorporates examples to support him. Many parents and guardians are overprotective of what content their children are exposed to in books and the media. They prevent conflicts when their kids are around and advice them to always avoid being in fights be it in school or within the neighborhood. However, despite all these efforts, bullying in schools and the level of juvenile crime has been on the rise. Gerard argues that exposing kids to some violent content can be beneficial. Violent media has a positive impact on children since it assists them to come out of emotional stress. The author introduces his audience to his timid and lonely childhood. His parents taught him to fear violence which made him grown into a passive child. A student in Gerard’s mother class convinced her that in spite of the violence and juvenility in some comic books, they had lofty messages of tolerance and pacifism. On hearing this, the mother decided to borrow one for Gerard. And as soon as the author was given a Marvel comic book, it transformed his fearfulness
