Surname 1 Name Professor Course Date Gender and Class A Sound of Thunder In the book "A Sound of Thunder," by Ray Bradbury, we get a wealthy hunter called Eckels who pays $10,000 to time travel. The time travelling is made possible by a time machine company called Time Safari which enables hunters to back in centuries to when dinosaurs existed. Such a sport seems to be a luxurious one and definitely all those who went along with it were people of a high class in the society. Although participants engage in this for fun it is a serious matter as the company facilitating it did not guarantee anything. One's safety and return are not guaranteed not to mention there are strict directives and expectations that each and every hunter has to comply with. In this particular setting Eckels was together with Kramer, Billings and their guide Travis. It is notable that participants involved are all men, perhaps because it is assumed they are braver in handling the pressure and tension. Before taking off Eckels engages in small take with his teams regarding the election of President Keith. They all seem to be amazed by him being president and they joke about using time travel to escape the contemporary world had Keith’s opponent won (Bradbury 2). Eckel initiated the topic to show that he is well aware of the political affairs of the nation. Usually, people of class in the society are presumed to always know almost every political and economical happening in the United States.
