Brittany Hammer AEC4465 October 28, 2013 Case Study 4 1. When I hear the word diversity, what comes to mind at first is the definition itself. Dictionary.com states diversity as “the state or fact of being diverse; difference; unlikeness.” Given the definition of diversity, I always think of the United States as a whole and how diverse we have become culturally. Today, the United States is considered to be the “melting pot” due to all of our different cultures merging together to become one big culture while still being unique to each other. This idea of diversity is also very prominent within the work place today in the United States. One major implication of diversity in organizations today comes from discrimination. Victims of discrimination within the work place are not just due to racial issues, other differences such as cultural, gender, values, age, ethnic group, education, etc. help complicate diversity within organizations. Discrimination prohibits qualified workers from getting jobs, promotions, and rewards solely because a person’s positional power within the organization. Diversity is often encouraged within the workplace but realistically management still struggles with making unbiased decisions. A few other implications of diversity within organizations is that it can be a difficult and touchy subject, communication can be difficult, people dislike change, and actual implementation will be difficult.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
