Organizational theory is a study of how organizations can become more efficient and productive by solving problems in their practices. Organizational theory emerged from the Industrial Revolution and has changed and evolved since. In this essay, the various organizational and management theories that are present in the scenario are analyzed. Who Best Represents the Classical Organization School of Thought? The Classical Organizational School of Thought has a “[focus] on i mproving the efficiency, productivity, and output of employees”, but it does not take each individual employee’s varying “human or behavioral attributes” (Classical Perspectives, n.d., para. 8 ). The Classical Organizational School of Thought consists of three approaches/theories: scientific management, bureaucracy theory of management, and the four essential functions of management. Out of the three women, Melanie is the woman that best represents the Classical Organizational School of Thought because she applies these approaches into the way she manages her department. Planning, organizing, leading and controlling are the four essential functions of management. When things are not organized and done according to plan, it could have a large effect on overall productivity and efficiency. This is where the manager has to be a leader and control the team to ensure that they do not compromise the original plan. Melanie showed this when she spoke with Joe, one of her team members.
