BURDEN OF STIGMA IN HELPING PEOPLE2Stigma challenges many people who have severe mental illness, it could get to an extent of hanging some of their sense of hope and self-esteem (Corrigan, &Rao, 2012). The first stage has other stages through a process called internalizing public stigma. It is thought to diminish self-efficacy and self-esteem. The author made mention that a person with a situation that isn’t healthy is aware of the public stigma that they’re suffering. The agreement stage is the second stage whereby the victim will agrees to the negative stereotypes that is given to a group of people. When the victim agrees to the stereotypes, he or she will get to the agreement stage where they will apply the stereotypes they agreed on about themselves. When the victim arrives at the application stage, it will lead to a decrease in self-esteem and the self-efficacy that the victim had.
