Sade Boss RE: Discussion - Week 11 Advocacy is a method used in the humanities to push for changes and create policies or programs to help our client(s) access their needed resources (Kirst-Ashman and Hull, 2018). Advocacy can benefit the individual or larger groups by empowering them and creating a platform that can promote and demand change. On micro-level social workers help advocate for their clients by connecting them with resources and informing them about their rights. In the last few months, I was able to connect with a young couplewho recently lost a baby from SIDS. After speaking with the couple, I was able to contact different support groups and programs for families who lost a baby from SIDS. Upon contacting the groups, I found that most, if not all, the groups were inaccessible to the couple either due to financial reasons or traveling. Although the couple could not access the local groups, I was able to find a Facebook group thatallowed the couple to connect with other families and have created a sense of community for the couple. I also looked into starting a small group meet up at the local library in which I work.
By connecting the couple with the Facebook group, I stayed attentive to the couple's well-being. Reamer
