Sade Boss RE: Discussion - Week 7 Technology has proven to be a powerful and beneficial resource to the field of social work. If used correctly and with ethics in mind, technology can be a tool to help connect social workers with their clients and give them the needed support instantly. However, keeping in touch via email, text, or updated via social media may cause an ethical dilemma and encourage unhealthily relationships between social workers and their clients. Technology allows social workers to keep digital records of their clients and, if applicable, allows the records to be shared with the clients instantly. As explained by Kirst-Ashman and Hull (2018), "clients should be given reasonable access to records"(pg.426). Texting, if done appropriately and strictly for professional purposes, can help the social worker establish meetings and a catalog with their clients. Nevertheless, social media perhaps is complex and can cause more harm than good to the social work andclient relationship.
