Natalie Hubert Professor Clayton ENGL 4102 12 September 2019 Response #1 Although some would say that the author's purpose was to be only educational and teach the child since they could not be productive members of society until they are educated, these books were made as tools for the author to make money off of parents that don’t have the time or energy to teach their children these concepts. Authors realize this and capitalize off the exhaustion of parents that can’t use children to profit off of because of child labor laws. With that in mind the authors tried to make these educational book fun as well so when a child reads it there is an incentive to continue to read it. In the book, A Pretty Little Pocketbook by John Newberry it becomes abundantly clear that it is written in a way to be educational and amusing so the child wants to read it and thus the parent has to do practically anything.
