Pressure Ulcer Case Study Answer the questions below based on the case study information. 1. What was the most significant risk factor that Betty had for developing a pressure ulcer? Why? How do the many risk factors present contribute to the development of a pressure ulcer? The biggest risk factor is her being totally dependent on others and being weak in all four limbs. It sounds like she sits in the recliner or wheelchair most of the day, which puts a lot of pressure on her coccyx. She isn’t able to get up and walk around when getting sore. She also isn’t verbal so she can’t express her pain or needs. 2. What clinical manifestations was Betty experiencing? Include relevant assessment findings. Why was she experiencing them? Reddened, non-blanchable, 5 cm diameter, purple concave area in center. The constant pressure reduces the blood flow and cuts off the amount of oxygen and nutrients the skin receives. When this happens, the skin and nearby tissue die and an ulcer is formed.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
