Introduction Our topic is Obesity is not a disease. “Obesity is an epidemic in the United States. This condition puts people at a higher risk for serious diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer”(Moores,2018). Obesity can be caused by eating a poor diet, having an inactive lifestyle, genetics and much more. Obesity is linked with the cause of many diseases and can cause many health problems but is not a disease itself.

The Social Gradient •An argument to be made against labeling obesity as a disease can be found within our own Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). The social gradient can have a significant impact on an individual’s ability to control their weight, as those with a lower socioeconomic status may not be able to afford or have access to healthier food options as well as the means to lose weight, such as a gym membership, equipment, or proper dietary advice from a medical professional. •Some believe that there should be a tax imposed on unhealthy food sources, such as the products offered by fast food restaurants as well as junk food items such as soda and candy. Studies have been done to show the relationship between these items and obesity,
