Temptation has been the root of all sin, and in the Bible temptation is caused by the devil himself. In Rossetti’s poem, she included many of the Seven Deadly Sins within all the temptation, like gluttony, greed, and lust. She also makes a jab at women that sell their body to goblin men in order to get what they desire. Silverman also made reference to the Oedipus Complex, being that young children hold sexual desire to their opposite sex parent and with that we could deduce that in Rossetti’s poem she also refers to a possible incest relationship between young sisters.
