Katelyn Song Weekly Reflection #4 This week’s reading focused on understanding different aspects of domestic violence, specifically with culture. All the readings brought up very interesting points on how we use culture as an excuse for domestic violence for immigrants and other Third World communities. The first article I read was focused on feminism and multiculturalism. It brought up many interesting points on how women should not be considered victims of their culture when they experience intimate partner violence. It was interesting to read the author’s point because I realized that I also use culture as an explanation for domestic abuse. For me, I realized that I used the Korean culture as an excuse because it is a lot of our culture has to do with respect and males are dominant. I never considered that I was using it as an excuse for why intimate partner violence occurs. The author brought up the point that multiculturalism and feminism should be thought as one.
