How to Draw Blood Target Audience Phlebotomists trainees/Entre level Required Entry Level Knowledge/Skills Participants must be able to speak English and have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent such as a GED. Participants must posses good hand control throughout the blood draw and have prior knowledge of identifying blood draw types and acronyms. Participants will have some prior knowledge of handling needles. Delivery Method/Instructional Strategies A mixture of demonstration, lecture, PowerPoint, hands on demonstrations, and videos will be used Course Length Approximately 2 hours. Training will take place on the second day of the training course. Class Size A normal lab space would normally have one phlebotomist per station. In training, a classroom can have as many as ten. Classroom Set-Up Classroom will have a rectangle table that will seat two participants per table. Each Phlebotomist will be provided with a participant manual. The classroom will have two sinks. In the back if the room there will also be two patient chairs, which will have an arm rest on them. Each table will have proper materials/ tools needed to complete the training content. The classroom will also have a projector screen that will be located before the student’s eyes. Course Goal (Terminal objective) At the completion of this training, the participants will be able to draw blood using proper tools with 100% accuracy. Enabling Objectives Given the required sanitary materials, the phlebotomist will demonstrate safety precautions preciously without any mistakes. Provided with proper lab tools, the phlebotomist will prepare the patient for the blood draw in accordance with the establishment guidelines. Given medical information, the phlebotomist will verify and draw blood the patient’s blood with no errors. HOW TO DRAW BLOOD 2
