Surname 1 Student’s name Professor’s name Course Date Geography of the United States and Canada The Ecosystem Native to the Ecoregion of Ozarks There are various animals, birds, and plants that can be found within the Ozarks ecosystem and it is prudent to note that they have been able to adapt and interact with their environment and each other. The ecoregion of Ozarks happens to encompass about 35 million acres that cuts across the Missouri region within the south, north of Arkansas, with smaller portions of Illinois and Oklahoma. The biogeographic region is indeed distinctive with a lower structural dome that has aged rock with variable strata. It is igneous rock beginning from the mountains of St. Francois. The region is also elevated along the rising Ouachita Mountains towards the southern America (Bailey, p. 34). The Ozark biota happens to be characterized by a higher level of disjunct in its species since it has about 160 general endemic species within the area. The diversity within the Ozarks includes the animals and plants. The Ecoregions has national parks together with forests, most of them being under the Heritage Sites for UNESCO. There is also the Ozark southern Missouri Highland Plateau which happens to be the home for more than 2,100 species of vascular plants that have adapted to the environment of the plateau. The animals, birds, and plants adapt and interact with their environment and each other in the sense that most of the region is significantly karst scenery (Bailey, p. 35). There are various springs within the region which also provide the much-needed water for the various species within the region as a whole. The animals also happen to be adapted to the environment given the sense that most of them seek refuge within the more than 6,200 caves in the Ozarks karst scenery. The Ozark biota and landscape happens to be dominated by a lot of grass, the glades, the savanna woodlands and even the fens in most areas.
