Bray 1 Katelyn Bray Professor Paslov FYEN 125 18 October 2018 Reality vs Imagination Have you ever been put into a serious situation where someone else’s life was put into your own hands? Have you ever tried to call for help to save someone you love? Having an illness does not only mean having a fever or the flu however, illness can become dangerous situations when it turns into eating disorders, self harm, relationship abuse, and more. As time goes on, there has been an increase of cases that have been reported due to such incidents amongst teenagers and young adults. Young men and women fear that they can not tell anyone no matter how close they are to a person, because it can make the situation worse, or put themselves or others in danger. The novels, Dreamland and Wintergirls are very similar due to the main characters facing an unhealthy, life threatening conflict. The two teens, Caitlin and Lia, force themselves to hide what they are going through and live a life through secrets and lies, owning up to their own consequences. Dreamland by Sarah Dessen is written to tell a story about a 16 year old girl, named Caitlin, who is put into an abusive relationship and does not want to leave it. As time goes on and her family is mourning, Caitlin begins dating a guy named Rogerson. Caitlin later realizes that she is letting him hit her and call

The only way Caitlin was able to escape her reality, was through her dream journal that Cass had left on her 16th birthday. Caitlin was able to write everything she was feeling and what was happening to her because she knew it was safe and that no one was going to read it but her. However, Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson is very similar to Dreamland in the sense that it starts off with some sort of tragic event/loss. In this book, it begins with the main character, Lia Overbrook, who had lost her best friend Cass. Lia grew up with Cass and they became very similar in the way they thought and behaved. By high school, they both agreed to be “the

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
