CHAPTER 1- 4 SUMMARY 2 The book visual intelligence by Anne Marie Seward Barry is a book that covers the perception, image, and manipulation in visual communication. With the expanding visual technologies in this century, asking the critical question on the meaning of images is imperative. Visual intelligence has become a part and an aspect that is critical to the comprehension of today’s day and age. Today’s environment has become dominated by visual imagery. Chapter 1 The first chapter of this book covers the perception and visual common sense. Our eyes might be the windows to the world because we view it and save it as data in our cognitive memory but what the eyes register is almost always never really the picture of our reality as it is. The perceptual process is directly descended to any number of distortions. For instance, how a straight stick appears bent when submerged in water, or how the moon appears larger when it’s on the horizon as opposed to how it's smaller when directly overhead.
