2 DISCUSSION BOARD FORUM 3 Why Am I Interested in Currency Devaluation and Evaluation? Growing up in a third world country (Chad, central Africa), it was common to hear people complaining about currency devaluation. My father worked as a high teacher and from time to time the family is made aware that the money my father earned lost value and that money is not enough to feed the whole family any more. No one explained to the children what devaluation meant, what caused devaluation and how does one adjust to devaluation. Devaluation was the only thing adults in the compound talked about, so as kids the word valuation never existed. Understanding these concepts will put me in a better place to sympathize with my father and may be look back in time and see when exactly we were affected by devaluation. Explanation of Currency Devaluation and Evaluation Currency devaluation means a currency of a country, for example in the US the currency is dollars, loses its value (Hollander, 2011). Currency evaluation is quiet the opposite of currency devaluation. Some countries change the value of their currency on purpose to satisfy economic
