Week 4: Journal This week’s material did challenge me to look at my concept of personality development. In many ways, I believed that we are who we are, and we rarely change. Now, I know as I have grown that many influences change us. Many of the studies I have read said that our core being does not change very much. Now I find that thought not wholly accurate. We may not have a violent nature, but if confronted with a situation that calls for violence, most people will not hesitate to act violently. In keeping with that thought pattern, some people have a fear of being in the spotlight but become politicians or actors (the same in my mind). That is not to say that they will always be comfortable in the light, but they will perform in it to the job at hand. As a former therapy patient, I have found that avenue of health care to be beneficial. Working with a trained, qualified therapist helped me in the progress of grief. I had trouble understanding why I could not move on with my life and why the pain was still so

Unformatted text preview: paralyzing years after the loss. With the help of my therapist, I developed ways to see loss as a gradual process that can ebb and flow throughout a lifetime. Depending on the moment, the memory of the loss hits me; I am now able to look at it and see through the pain to the joy and love that I had. Through my experience in therapy, I began to understand that my childhood influenced me as an adult. Not to say all my personality now is based on my childhood. I now know why I do not like being in a big household, but I can cope with small amounts of noise for periods, just not the constant hustle and bustle of many people living in one space. I believe that as we age, our personality can change, unlike the adage “set in their ways.” We are in control of how we allow ourselves to experience new things. To me, it is essential to keep growing and trying new things, especially as we age so that we do not stagnate, mentally, or physically....
