reading material. Tukam Paul saiys : "The novel is a prose literary works that have intrinsic elements." An intrinsic element of the elements that build a paper or essay novel of the structure that will embody literary works. No exception to the novel " KHOTBAH DI ATAS BUKIT BY KUNTOWIJOYO " that has intrinsic elements, such as the theme of the life, character: Barman, Popi, Bobi and third- person viewpoint. Novel “ KHOTBAH DI ATAS BUKIT ” tells Barman, a man old retired civil servant who lives with son named Bobi. Barman fill the day in a villa in the hills. He wants to find the tranquility of life in old age spending. There he met Popi. Poppy used to be a prostitute. Finally they were married and lived happily. One day Barman met with a man who looked like him. They formed a friendship. Many lessons learned from Humam Barman. Their friendship led to relationships with Popi stretchable barman. Humam died shortly afterwards. After the death of Humam, Barmam run Humam teachings and spread his message to the surrounding population. Population was a lot of coming. But the people up in the

hills Barman just confused. Eventually he was able to say his sermon by saying that "Life is not worth it to continue, then kill yourself". Barman was suicide without the knowledge of the people. After Barman died, Popi left the house and she met a man by releasing his desire that he has been buried on loved ones. The style of language used in the novel is Indonesian, and not a few expressions of philosophy, an expression of the philosophy of the novel's meaning is quite wide, from the meaning of which is attached to the citation in this novel, the author of more use signs or symbols, on literary studies signs on writing a work called semiotic or semiotic approach.
