05a Modal Model of Memory Lecture Notes: 05a Modal Model of Memory At the end of this unit, you should be able to define and use the following terms: Consolidation: when memories are being integrated into LTM in intermediate memory Delayed recall: a significant delay, hour, day, or week, between presentation of the to-be-remembered items and the recall of them; could be asked for serial or free recall Ecological validity: an experiment or study involves participants doing things that they would do in the real world Free recall: recalling words in any order you remember them Immediate recall: recalling words immediately after they are presented Intermediate memory: a third memory store that is longer than the duration of working memory (STM), somewhere to hold the memory while it is being integrated into our LTM, process known as consolidation Primacy effect: we remember the words we are first exposed to well Recency effect: we remember words well that we have seen/heard/experienced most recently Serial position curve : The U-shaped curve found in shows we have a better time remembering the first items in a serial recall (primacy effect) and also the
