Giselle Godt BSC 2010 CH 6 Concept Check 6.2.1 The nucleus has nuclear envelope, nucleolus, chromatin. The mitochondrion is the organelle where cellular respiration occurs and most ATP is generated. The chloroplast is the photosynthetic organelle; converts energy of sunlight to chemical energy stored in sugar molecules. The endoplasmic reticulum network of membranous sacs and tubes; active in membrane synthesis and other synthetic and metabolic processes; has rough (ribosome-studded) and smooth regions. 6.2.2 This cell would have the same volume as the cells in columns 2 and 3 but proportionally more surface area than that in column 2 and less than that in column 3. Thus, the surface-to- volume ratio should be greater than 1.2 but less than 6. To obtain the surface area, you would add the area of the six sides (the top, bottom, sides, and ends): 125 x 125 x 125 x 125 x 1 x 1 x 502. The surface-to-volume ratio equals 502 divided by a volume of 125, or 4.0. 6.2 The greater the diameter of a single-celled organism, the less surface area it has relative to its volume. The surface area to volume ratio is a way of expressing the relationship between these parameters as an organism's size changes.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
