Favorite Monumental Structure Unit 8 Tess Phillips In this report, I will be discussing my favorite monumental structure. I will discuss the differences of Egyptian pyramids and The Ziggurats of Mesopotamia. To me, these are the two are some of the most incredible pieces of architecture to ever be built. I will organize this essay to properly explain the differences of each structure. Mesopotamia Ziggurats The ziggurats were first built by the Sumerians, who are one of the oldest urban societies of the world, they emerged in southern Mesopotamia. Ziggurats were initially created from the ideology of temples, except Ziggurats were much larger. These structures are very similar to pyramids; however, they had many layers of steps on each, unlike the pyramid which had a ramp. Ziggurats were built to show respect or to thank a god, many of them include shrines on top in thanks to a god that presided over their city.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
