She finds her identity within her language, “until I can take pride in my language, I cannot take pride in myself.” Anzaldua provokes the reader by saying “as long as I have to accommodate the English speakers rather than having them accommodate me, my tongue will be illegitimate.” She is done having to adapt and change herself in order to be understood by Americans.
