I want to believe that the independent sample T-test compares different means of two independent groups to determine statistical differences between the populations. The Levene test is used to output which version of the t test to report. The equal variance assumed known as pooled variances t test or the equal variance not assumed known as separate variance T- test is determined based on the Levene test output. Equal variance assumed when there is no significant violation of the homogeneity of variance assumption (Warner, 2012). Whereas, if the Levene test indicates that an assumption of equal variance not assumed is because the assumption of equal variance is violated. Dependent variable that is continuous interval or ratio level, Independent variable that is categorical two or more groups. Also cases that values on both the dependent and independent variables Independent samples/groups for example independence of observations, There is no relationship between the subjects in each sample. No subject in either group can influence subjects in the other group, No group can influence the other group. A good way remember this is independent samples T test requires the assumption of homogeneity of variance for example if both groups have the same variance. SPSS conveniently includes a test for the homogeneity of variance, called Levene's Test, whenever you run an independent samples T test. And also SPSS will subtract the mean of the Group 2 from the mean of Group 1. But also need to remember that when doing Levene's Test, the population variances of group 1 and 2 are equal. ### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
