AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION 2 Abstract For a patient that has been recently diagnosed with a heart disease or for the family of the patient with a heart disease, I would recommend the American Heart Association (AHA) website for additional information. This site provides adequate and important information all about different heart conditions, healthy diets, and much more.

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION 3 What is the HON Criteria? The HON criteria or, the Health on the Net code of conduct, is a set of principles that critics a website providing quality health and medical information that is to be used by patients, professionals and the general public. A HONcode certification indicates that the website is has met all of the principles standards and is qualified to be used as a reliable source for patients, professionals, and the general public to use for information that is health and medical-related. Although that HONcode certification does not guarantee the accuracy of any medical information that is presented by the website Principle 1: Information must be authoritative The information provided by this website comes from medically qualified authors. The information that is posted on the American Heart Association website is written by professional writers and editors that obtain the information from interviews with physicians and health care providers. This meets the HON criteria because the information and stories are provided by medically trained and professionals (Healthonnet.org, 2019). The American Heart Association website provides an editorial page that discusses who is in charge of unloading the information and that the information provided is coming from a reliable source such as a medically trained professional. Principle 2: Complementarity/Mission/Assistance In this part of the HON criteria, the information that the website provided should be supported and not replaced by what patients are told by their physicians. Along with providing supporting information the website should not provide a diagnosis for any heart disease that the person may be looking up. The American Heart Association website provides an editorial section

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION 4 that states the information provided by the American Heart Association does not replace the advice provided by medically qualified professionals (Healthonnet.org, 2019). This indicates that the American Heart Association meets the Complementary principle of the HON criteria.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
